The Craft Activities

The ancient artisan shops are revived inside the museum alongside the work of the rural house and the tools of the itinerant crafts.

In the post offices, the old artisan shops revive, but also those activities that until the early decades of the 1900s were practiced at home and, seasonally, with customers, street vendors who offered their work often in exchange for products.

Among them, the butcher of pigs, a man of art, able to handle knives of all sizes: he scanned, split, cut skin, muscles, entrails, tendons, forming piles that sprinkled with salt, pepper, garlic, wine ... slaughter, a party! And therefore corners of the house rebuilt to accommodate the tools of the shoemaker, the barber, the tailor, mattress, hatter, knitter ..., tools with which the craftsman made artifacts, repeating every day the same gestures and operations for centuries .... and shops.

The sooty atmosphere of the blacksmith's workshop was recreated, whose work was vital in peasant and irreplaceable culture. In his forge, agricultural tools were made of iron and those needed by other craftsmen. In addition, work animals were ironed.

In all the peasant families there were those who knew how to work the wood more or less well and completed or built simple agricultural tools and modest household furnishings. However, those who demanded well-made furnishings and had money to pay for them could turn to the carpenter who lived by practicing it in the most populous villages. With special tools he also built wagons, barrels and castles. What unites any sector of human life is the need to carry out measurements, a daily operation that is familiar to everyone, but reaching a common unit of measurement that obeyed a need for fairness and equality was neither simple nor easy, because clashed with the ancient feudal privileges of nobility and clergy.
